Energy and Domestic Investment Challenges in Central Europe - From Decarbonisation to the Green Transition
This session at the BESTalks conference was held by EUROPEUM on 20 May 2025 at 11:00-12:30 in Budapest, Hungary.
Introductory remarks were given by:
Silke Maes, JustGreen Researcher;

Central Europe’s shift to a just and green energy transition faces social and economic inequalities, regional disparities, and infrastructure challenges. Decarbonisation efforts must address coal-dependent regions, income gaps limiting access to energy-saving solutions, and urban-rural divides in transport and housing. The sessions explores public perceptions, best practices in housing renovations, and policy solutions for a fair transition. Engaging Central European stakeholders, the session discusses urgent challenges and local-level strategies to ensure equity in the green transition.

tvoříme evropu - interview with the successful JustGreen project
In this interview Jovana Jović Tadić, Project Manager at EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, introduces the aims and focus of the initiative.
“The JustGreen project aims to engage the citizens of the V4 countries in various way in the public debate on decarbonisation, especially in the areas of transport, jobs and housing. In this way, we find out how citizens perceive the impact of decarbonisation policies on their daily lives in these three areas.”
“We are currently finalising roundtables for journalists and webinars for the public. In all four countries, we have already held consultations with citizens. We are now preparing public dicussions and climate conferences to involve both the public and policy makers so that the project has a wider impact. We are also planning to launch a podcast early next year.”
